The Cypriot government has appointed Panikkos Vakkou as the new Vice-Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
Vakkou, who joined the seven-member executive board of CySEC earlier this year, replaces Giorgos Karatzias, who has transitioned to a role at the Central Bank of Cyprus.
Panikkos Vakkou brings extensive experience in financial markets and risk management to his new role. He is currently the Director of Operations and Credit Risk Manager at Haogen Technologies and a CFA charterholder.
His previous roles include Director of RiskMatrix and a regional partner at Moody’s Analytics. Vakkou also served as a Restructuring Officer at the Cooperative Central Bank, gaining valuable experience in the banking sector.
In addition to Vakkou’s appointment, Neophytos Lambertidis has been named as a new member of the CySEC board.
Lambertidis is a Professor in Finance at the Cyprus University of Technology and brings a strong academic background to the regulatory body. His appointment completes the seven-member board, ensuring CySEC continues to effectively oversee the financial markets in Cyprus.
